Nolito delivers the three points

The striker from Cádiz scored from the spot in the first half to give Celta a 1-0 win over Eibar, although the Basques could have levelled late on.

RC Celta earned a narrow 1-0 win over SD Eibar thanks to a penalty from Nolito. It was the forward's ninth goal of the season and he also came close to scoring a wonder goal from 40 metres.

The hosts took the initiative in the opening stages of the game, with Saúl Berjón coming close to opening the scoring after six minutes. But the balance in the game turned as the minutes ticked away and Celta started creating chances. Michael Krohn-Dehli fired the first warning shot at Xabi Irureta and then Nolito broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time from the penalty spot. The former Barcelona academy player then came within inches of scoring one of the goals of the season as he let fly from over 40 metres, but his shot landed just over the bar.

Gaizka Garitano made changes after the break, bringing on Federico Piovaccari, and the Italian created a goalscoring chance within a few moments of entering the field of play. Another substitute, Manu del Moral, tried his luck from a free-kick but Celta stopper Sergio Álvarez fisted the ball away. In the 68th minute Krohn-Dehli chipped the ball into the heart of the area to leave Hugo Mallo with just the goalkeeper to beat, but Xabi irureta saved well. Dídac Vilà then smashed the crossbar late on, in the Basque's best opportunity of the game. Celta take the three points to move on to 42 points, while Eibar remain three clear of the relegation zone.
