Jonathas prevents first Córdoba victory

A goal from the Brazilian forward, who had missed a penalty at the start of the game, earned Elche a draw against an Andalusian side still without a win.

Elche CF did not give up in their clash with Córdoba CF on matchday 12 of the Liga BBVA. Goals from David Lombán and Jonathas de Jesús enabled Elche to come back from 0-2 down against the Andalusians.

The Martínez Valero welcomed two teams needing points, good performances and victory. The two sides went out with this motivation, looking to attack and create chances on goal. Jonathas could have put Elche in front, but he missed from the penalty spot just before Fidel Chaves capitalised on his chance and put Córdoba ahead.

There were more goals after the break. Just as Elche were at their best, pressing hard in the opposition box, Fede Cartabia offered a flash of brilliance to add the Andalusians’ second goal. The lead was short-lived, however, as David Lombán scored from the penalty spot to close the gap. The goal spurred on an emboldened Elche, who 15 minutes before the final whistle found their reward through Jonathas, who made the stadium erupt with the equaliser.
