Granada and Celta share the spoils

Having protected a 1-0 lead throughout the match, the Andalusians had to settle for a point after Bongonda’s goal in time added on.

It was honours even at the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes in the Liga BBVA matchday 30 clash between Granada CF and RC Celta. A vibrant and open game ended 1-1 as los celestes earned an injury-time equaliser to cancel out the hosts’ early opener.

Granada made a lightning start to the match, and after 3 minutes Robert Ibañez put them ahead after a cross by Piti from the left. The goal brought confidence to Abel Resino’s men, who held off a Celta side who sought to level but went in at the break still behind. After Jeison Murillo’s sending-off, the Galicians looked to take advantage as Granada defended deeper in the final minutes of the half, but they were unable to find the net.

Celta came out strongly in the second period and turned to the goalscoring instincts of Santi Mina and Nolito to create danger in Roberto Fernández’s area. Both gave it a real go and, despite the Andalusians preferring to take control of the ball and let the clock run down, Théo Bongonda rescued a point after 93’ to avoid a second straight defeat for Eduardo Berizzo’s team.
