Barral knocks out Almería

The striker from Cádiz scored a hat-trick as Levante thrashed the Andalusians.

Levante UD move away from the relegation zone after easily beating UD Almería 4-1 away from home on matchday 29 in the Liga BBVA.

David Barral scored three goals for the visitors, who received a shot in the arm in their fight for survival thanks to the three points.

Almería dominated the game early on but did little to worry Diego Mariño, while Levante played in a more direct style and looked more dangerous.

The granotas took the lead when Barral converted Andreas Ivanschitz’s cutback. Almería sought a quick reaction. Verza forced Mariño into a save and the goalkeeper then reacted quickly to prevent Thievy from scoring on the rebound. The Valencia side however did not want to cede the ground they had gained, and they doubled the lead through Víctor Casadesús to make it to half-time 2-0 up.

Almería looked lost after the break, playing with less intensity than their opponents, and they paid dearly for it. Barral made it 3-0 by tapping into an empty net to pile more misery on Almería, who then had Sebastián Dubarbier sent off for picking up a second booking.

Yet they did not give up and Tomer Hemed pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after Thievy was fouled. However, Barral soon silenced the home crowd again by scoring his third goal of the night.
