An unforgiving Valencia see off Rayo

Nuno's team came flying out of the blocks and ended up winning 3-0 against a Rayo who were powerless to stop their opponents.

Valencia CF stamped their authority as they won 3-0 against a Rayo who looked weak in defence and were unable to stop an opponent that was firing on all cylinders in one of the most passionate clashes of Liga BBVA matchday 15.

It was evident from the opening exchanges that it was going to be an open match with plenty of goals, and that proved to be the case. With two teams that champion attractive football, it would be the home side who got things underway with a goal from Sofiane Feghouli. Shortly afterwards, the same player scored the second for Nuno's men after pouncing on a loose ball in the six-yard box. The fans wanted more and before the break Valencia delivered, making it 3-0 thanks to a great run from Piatti, who beat Cristian in a one-on-one. The Franjirrojos barely troubled Diego Alves's goal, although one shot from Alberto Bueno had the crowd worried.

In the second half, content with their lead, Valencia slowed the tempo and Rayo grew into the game. As a result, Diego Alves was called into action on two occasions to fend off a couple of shots from the Franjirrojos. At the opposite end of the pitch, Feghouli could have wrapped things up but his shot was wide of the mark. The home team were down to ten men after Andre Gomés saw red, but they still could have increased their lead as the final whistle approached. The result means that Valencia consolidate their fifth place (28 points) and leaves Rayo in eleventh.
