Almería's persistence pays off

Elche, who took the lead twice, were unable to withstand the pressure from the Andalusian side and it was spoils shared in the Juegos Mediterráneos.

It was one point apiece on matchday 7 of the 2014/15 Liga BBVA between UD Almería and Elche CF. Both sides searched for a winner until the final whistle, but they had to settle for a point (2-2) that means they make little progress up the table.

Although it was Elche who scored the first goal through Víctor Rodríguez, Almería were close to coming back in the dying minutes of the first half. Verza equalised with a penalty and then Édgar Méndez and Fernando Soriano had great chances to put their team in front on the verge of half time.

After the restart, Elche dug deep and the quality of one of their forwards made the difference. In a superb move, Jonathas de Jesus brought the ball under his spell on the edge of the box and rifled the ball into the top corner. Fran Escribá's men failed to make the most of their chances in the final minutes and paid for it as Tomer Hemed equalised from a corner for Almería.
