Villarreal CF overcame RC Celta 1-3 in a hard-fought clash in Balaídos on matchday seven of the Liga BBVA season, with young midfielder Moi Gómez getting two goals in the space of one minute and thirteen seconds and Mario also finding the back of the net.
Balaídos witnessed a game of top quality football. The Galicians started out on top and forced Villarreal to sit back. Eduardo 'Toto' Berizzo’s men’s insistence and attack-minded game plan saw them create clear scoring opportunities, none of which they were able to convert into goals however. It was during the home team’s dominant spell that Moi Gómez, the man of the match, popped up. The Yellows’ young and talented central midfielder scored two goals in little over a minute, to give his side a clear lead. Joaquín Larrivey was able to answer Moi’s two blows with a goal of his own to shorten the gap before the half-time break.
In the second half, the Galicians stuck to their plan and made the away keeper, Sergio Asenjo, work on a number of occasions. Nolito and Orellana, as active as ever in the Celta attack, were the home team’s most lively players, but a solid Villarreal back line and a lack of accuracy in front of goal meant they were unable to find an equaliser. The match became a cagey affair as Marcelino García Toral’s men threatened on the break. Right back Mario Gasper finished off a great pass from Argentinian Luciano Vietto to make it 1-3. With these three points Villarreal move into seventh place, one point behind Celta.© LaLiga - Year 2014
