What became of... Juanjo Valencia

Previously… Juan José Valencia de la Serna (San Sebastián, 1971) is a former player who was a goalkeeper for Athletic Club, Sevilla FC, R. Sporting, Gimnàstic de Tarragona and R. Racing C.

His achievements… He played 195 times for Athletic de Bilbao (172 in Liga BBVA, 17 in the Copa del Rey and six in the UEFA Cup). He made his debut for the Basque outfit against Cádiz CF in San Mamés on 6 September 1992 under the guise of Jupp Heynckes, then Athletic's manager.

After hanging up his boots… He retired in 2006 at Racing, having played once for the Cantabria side. Since then he has been a goalkeeper coach with Athletic, Xerez CD and SD Eibar. Padel is one of his passions and he competes regularly in tournaments.

Did you know… He started his career with Antiguoko, the club that has produced the likes of Javier De Pedro, Andoni Iraola, Mikel Arteta and Xabi Alonso.
