Dick Costolo, the CEO of Twitter; Javier Tebas, the president of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional and Jaume Roures of Mediapro, signed an agreement in Twitter’s head offices in San Francisco which will allow football supporters and fans of the Liga BBVA to experience all the match action before, during and after games, and also get the players’ reaction.
The agreement will allow the LFP and Mediapro to provide audio visual content unlike any footballing competition has ever been able to do before, through the @LaLiga Twitter handle. Among the many advantages of this deal between the three entities is the use of the Amplify tool, which allows tweets to be accompanied by videos in real time. As a result the best moments of each match will be available to watch globally almost as soon as they occur.
From today, @LaLiga will become the first European league to take advantage of this tool, meaning the Spanish competition will become one of the most advanced in the world in terms of online communication, alongside the NFL, the NBA and the MLB.
For Javier Tebas this deal with Twitter "will enable the Liga BBVA to extend its reach globally. Now the best league in the world will be on the best social media network in the world".
The CEO of Twitter, Dick Costolo, stated that this is “a fantastic deal” and that they will continue “working to provide users with the content they are looking for while maintaining the global spirit that has come to define Twitter".
