Sevilla exercises its option to sign Pareja and Carriço

The two players came to the Andalusian side on loan last season and were instrumental in the club’s European success.

Sevilla FC continue their preparations ahead of next season. Along with Unai Emery’s two-year contract extension as the team’s manager, and the arrivals of Aleix Vidal and Denis Suárez, the club has also signed Nico Pareja and Daniel Carriço, two players who were key to Sevilla’s UEFA Europa League win last season. Both players started against SL Benfica in the final.

Nico Pareja, who came to the club on loan from FC Spartak Moscow, played 36 games for the club last season, 24 in the Liga BBVA and ten in the UEFA Europa League. The 30-year-old centre back already had experience of the Spanish topflight under his belt, having played for RCD Espanyol between 2008 and 2010. Among his list of achievements is the gold medal he won with the Argentine national side during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. His new contract will keep him at Sevilla until 2017.

Meanwhile, Carriço came on loan from Reading FC. The Portuguese made his Liga BBVA debut last season and since then has played 22 matches in the division. He has played a total of 31 games, eight of which were in the Europa League, a competition in which he has scored one goal. The young midfielder has signed a four-year contract with the club.
