Luis Suarez named LaLiga Santander World Player 2015/16

The Uruguayan pulled in the highest number of votes from users to claim an award which reflects the competition's international character and global make-up

Luis Suarez Diaz (Salto, Uruguay, 24 January 1987) has been crowned the LaLiga Santander World Player 2015/16 at the #PremiosLaLiga Gala. Followers of the league took to LaLiga.es/en and LaLiga's official Twitter account to cast their votes for the Uruguayan striker as the non-European player who best represents the international nature of the division and its global composition.

Suarez played a leading role in FC Barcelona's march to the title last term, in a memorable season which saw him notch 40 goals to end the year as the division's top scorer. During the course of the campaign, he also provided 16 assists in his 35 appearances (or 3,150 minutes of game time). The striker's stellar performances last season were enough to convince supporters that he's a worthy winner of this accolade.
