LaLiga increases national (15%) and international (30%) revenue from audiovisual rights

LaLiga has successfully completed the partial sale of audiovisual rights in Spain for the 2019/20 to 2021/22 seasons.

25 June 2018. Today Monday LaLiga successfully completed the partial sale of the audiovisual content exploitation rights for the First and Second Divisions of the National League Championship in Spain and Andorra for the 2019/20 to 2021/22 seasons.

Of the eight lots put out to tender, none of them reached the reserve price. However, the Control Body, which met this afternoon, decided to provisionally award four lots (2, 4, 5 and 7) pending the signing of the relevant contracts.

15% increase in revenue

The total amount for these four lots for the three-year period from 2019/20 to 2021/22 was €3.421 billion (an average of €1.140 billion per season), which consists of a 15% increase on the four equivalent lots for the previous three-year period (€2.978 billion). Furthermore, the Copa del Rey and the 2nd Division are not included in Lots 4, 5 and 7 for the upcoming three-year period (whilst they were to some extent in the previous three-year period).

International audiovisual rights

In addition, last Thursday the Control Body renewed the contract with the International Marketing Agency (Mediapro) for the sale of the international audiovisual rights during the next five seasons (2019/20 to 2023/24).

By virtue of this agreement, LaLiga is guaranteed €4.485 billion in revenue from international audiovisual rights during the next five seasons, which is 30% more than in the previous three-year period.

Main beneficiaries

With these provisional results LaLiga has underscored the growing value of Spanish football. The best league in the world is also a leader in the leisure and entertainment sector.

The main beneficiaries are football fans in Spain. On the one hand, they will be able to continue enjoying the best football in the world and the best televised spectacle at the highest quality through the various audiovisual broadcasters. On the other, thanks to the income of the clubs from the sale of the audiovisual rights, they will have great players, better infrastructure, etc. for the enjoyment of the fans.

In this regard, the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, was "satisfied because this outcome is positive for all those who directly or indirectly form part of the Spanish football industry. The clubs, successful broadcasters, sponsors and, in particular, football fans all come out as winners in this tender."
