The opening day of the prestigious global competition served up some enthralling encounters and plenty of edge-of-your-seat action.

Group A

Real Betis opened their tournament campaign with a pulsating game against Inter Miami. The Sevillians made a rip-roaring start and promptly raced into a 3-0 league, but the US outfit were never really out of the contest and hit back with two goals to bring themselves back into contention. However, despite probing until the very end, the Miami-based side were ultimately unable to find an equaliser.

Next up for the Verdiblancos was a meeting with Real Madrid, who tasted glory at last year’s LaLiga Promises Santander International Tournament in Gran Canaria. The two sides played out a fiercely contested encounter that ended goalless. The Blancos will face off against Inter Miami tomorrow to decide which of the three teams will secure top spot.

Group B

Sevilla FC and Villarreal CF lie level on points at the summit of this group after both Spanish representatives prevailed over FC Dallas. The Andalusians ran out 2-0 winners over their US opponents, whilst the Yellow Submarine eked out a 3-2 triumph.

Sevilla and Villarreal will meet tomorrow in what promises to be an intriguing encounter to decide who finishes top of the pile in Group B.

Group C

Atletico Madrid and Valencia CF currently sit pretty at the top of Group C. The Colchoneros recorded a 2-1 win over the Valencians in the tournament curtain-raiser, before the Che earned a narrow 2-1 triumph over Chivas Guadalajara.

Tomorrow will see Atleti and Chivas Guadalajara lock horns in a match that will determine which of the Spanish sides takes top spot or will the Mexicans manage to put themselves in the reckoning for a second-placed finish?

Group D

If we had to sum Group D up in a word it’d have to be excitement. Despite Atlas FC opening the group with a convincing 5-0 rout against Ideasport, the final game of the day served up a real corker as FC Barcelona and Atlas went head-to-head at Orlando’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex to showcase their credentials as group winners.

The Mexican side’s high-intensity football and determination collided with the intricate possession and smart movement of the Barça starlets in an even affair that remained goalless until the final kick of the game, when the Cules struck the winner after a loose ball in the box was slammed into the far corner of the net.
