At 30 years of age, and with vast experience in the world of football, RCD Espanyol striker Sergio García is in the form of his life having found the net ten times, his best goal-scoring record in the Liga BBVA. The latest victim of his prowess in front of goal was Athletic Club, the team against which he scored the opening goal in this weekend's match (1-2) and which helped to break the Basque's spell in the San Mamés Stadium, where they had never lost a league match.

Despite being the most productive season for Espanyol's number nine, the Catalan player was certainly well acquainted with goal beforehand. In the 2002/03 season, the striker found the net 19 times in the Segunda División B con el FC Barcelona B. Just one year later, with the same team and in the same division he bagged 15 goals. Sergio García's best Liga BBVA stats came in the 2008/09 season, when he struck nine times. Now five years later, and in the form of his life, with 14 matches left to play he has now scored ten goals in command of a team that is just five points away from the European positions.

Javier Aguirre's men not only have a marksman on the pitch, they also seem to have found the leader they sought. His spell in the FC Barcelona reserves and his debut for the first team, his year at Levante UD, three seasons serving in the ranks of Real Zaragoza and his third season in the colours of the 'pericos', have led Sergio García to where he is now and 2014 is proving to be his most fruitful year in football.

The blanquiazul appears to have found the stability he needed in his home city. The forward is Espanyol's secret weapon, and they know they can trust him to strike gold in the most unlikely places. With the pace and enthusiasm that have always served him, the Catalan striker is in full flow and enjoying playing football at the peak of his powers.

The pocket-sized assassin's best game in front of goal came when he put a hat-trick past Rayo Vallecano to secure a valuable 1-4 win in Vallecas, showing what the team's captain is capable of when he is on his A-game. Sergio García is the heart and soul of an Espanyol who will be hoping its leader sticks around for a few more years yet.
